This policy explains what personal information BuildLab Homes collects through this website and when you deal with us, how we use it, and your rights under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Who we are
BuildLab Homes ("BuildLab", "we", "us") is a residential building company based in Tauranga, New Zealand. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us about privacy at matt@buildlab.nz or on 022 152 2607.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Enquiries: when you use a contact form we collect your name, phone number, email address, your message and the page you sent it from.
- Project information: if you go on to work with us, we collect what we need to plan, price and build your project, such as your property address, plans, preferences, budget and correspondence.
- Calls, emails and messages: anything you choose to tell us when you contact us directly.
Information collected automatically
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager) to understand how people find and use the site, such as pages visited, approximate location, device and browser. This uses cookies.
- Advertising measurement: we use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure how our ads perform and to show relevant ads on Meta platforms. This uses cookies.
- Technical logs: our hosting provider automatically records standard server information such as IP address, browser type and the time of each request, for security and reliability.
How we use it
- to reply to your enquiry and give you information, advice or a quote;
- to plan, deliver and manage building work you engage us for, including dealing with council, consultants and suppliers on your behalf;
- to keep records we are required to keep, including under the Building Act 2004 and tax law;
- to improve our website and understand which of our marketing works; and
- to contact you about your project or enquiry. We will only send you marketing if you have agreed to it, and you can opt out at any time.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
We only share personal information where it is needed for the purposes above, with:
- service providers who help us run our business and this website, including our website host, email delivery provider, Google (Analytics) and Meta (advertising measurement);
- people involved in your project, such as architects, engineers, surveyors, subcontractors, suppliers, certifiers and your local council, when you engage us;
- our professional advisers, such as accountants, lawyers and insurers; and
- anyone we are required or allowed to share it with by law.
Overseas providers
Some of these providers store information outside New Zealand, including in the United States and Australia. Where we send personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is protected in a way comparable to the Privacy Act 2020.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. We use them for analytics (Google Analytics) and advertising measurement (Meta Pixel). The site works without them. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on, and manage ad preferences in your Meta ad settings.
Storage and security
We keep personal information on secure, access-controlled systems and only give access to people who need it. We keep it for as long as we need it for the purposes above or as required by law (for example, building and tax records), and then delete or de-identify it.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Contact us at matt@buildlab.nz. We will respond within 20 working days. We may need to confirm your identity first.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, please talk to us first so we can try to put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
